MIL and DIL Relationship

A recent poll of 2,000 married women found 24% described their relationship with their mother in law as ‘terrible’

16 per cent said she was bitchy, 22 per cent thought her rude, 25 per cent controlling, 35 per cent judgmental and 32 per cent interfering (http://tinyurl.com/ckuhn9f)

Those figures seem a bit low to me ! 😉

Relationships between a new bride and the MIL have a great potential for difficulty – more so, when they share the same household

To be fair to the MIL, it can be difficult to give up control of your son’s wellbeing and happiness to another woman, particularly when her cooking and housekeeping skills are not as good as your own (these things take time and practice to develop). Then there is the fear of the MIL that the DIL may detach the husband from the family and his duty to look after his parents when they are elderly

This vid captures some of the fears both MIL and DIL bring to the new relationship

Those numbers do seem rather low. I watch Dr Phil and there’s a lot lacking in the pudding where this MIL and DIL relationship comes in. I got on fine with my MIL. Just didn’t get on that way with her son.
